Mavericks Background
The design of Mavericks High Schools is aimed at allowing each student to work at his or her own level and pace, within lesson plans tailored to individual needs. The latest in computer-based learning technology is in place and curriculum is directed by state-certified teachers. All students will earn high school credits by demonstrating mastery, rather than enduring seat time in a traditional classroom.
Founded in 2007, Mavericks is an Education Service Provider (ESP) dedicated to designing, developing and implementing better ways to serve a large and rapidly increasing student population, who is not realizing success through a traditional education process and dropping out before earning a high school diploma. The Maverick leadership team has more than 100 years experience in the design, development and operation of schools. (www.mavericksineducation.com)

Marvin Pitts is the Deputy Superintendent of Mavericks in Education. He assumed this position on July 5, 2011 after his unprecedented success at Osceola Mavericks for 2 years. At Mavericks Osceola he started the school from infancy to present day success. Under his outstanding leadership, the school experienced graduation numbers that were unmatched. In 2010-2011 school years, 181 students successfully completed Mavericks Osceola with a High School Diploma.
Prior to being appointed Principal, Marvin excelled at every job he attempted. He was a stellar Reading Coach at C.A. Boswell Elementary School where he distinguished himself as a caring and consistent teacher; loved by his students and respected by his colleagues. In addition to this fulltime position, Marvin also worked simultaneously as an adjunct professor at South Eastern University, as well as East Area Adult School. All three jobs tapped into the passion and talent that Marvin has for the field of education and more importantly impacting the lives of individuals.
Marvin’s education has cemented his innate intellectual abilities. He earned a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from University of South Florida while working fulltime as a teacher. Prior to this, he earned degrees from Warner Southern College and Polk Community College. The numerous awards received by Marvin such as Who’s Who Among Students and Teacher of the Year nominee among many others, are just a sampling of his commitment and devotion to education. These awards are dwarfed by the love of his students and respect and awe of his colleagues and friends. He stands out as an advocate for students and you will often hear him say” do not let this suit fool you,” in essence, do not let the corporate attire distract you from who he is….he will fight for his students. This he does minutely as his commitment is to diminish the disparities evidenced in the achievement gaps in disenfranchised children.
Marvin Pitts is the consummate educator armed with love, wisdom and heart.
Frank Attkisson comes to Mavericks in Education with a diversified background. In 2008 he
was termed out of the Florida House of Representatives having served 7 of his 8 years on
various education committees. He was significantly involved in the major education reform
bills such as the improved FCAT bill, parental involvement bill, charter school reform and a
host of other issues that have brought Florida’s public education a leadership role in
American education.
As the Mayor of Kissimmee between 1996-2000, Frank led the City Commission to build the
first municipal charter school in central Florida. He has a diverse background in business,
marketing and consulting. During the past decade he privately consulted with developers and
created school assessment districts allowing schools to be built in the middle of subdivisions
allowing immediate concurrency for developers, school capacity for school districts and
creative siting for students to walk to the neighborhood schools.
He has been a small business owner over much of his business career. In addition to consulting
in education he has owned and operated water and wastewater utility systems. While in the
legislature he also served and chaired numerous business, tax and finance committees.
He is a graduate of Florida Southern College in 1977. Frank and his wife, Juda, have 3 adult
children.
